In the practice of ayurveda, there is an ancient ritual of body-oiling called abhyanga. This word roughly translates to loving oneself. The practice of oiling the body helps to soften the skin, move the lymph and imparts the healing qualities of the herbs infused into the oil.
For those of us who are highly sensitive, or empathic, oiling the body helps to create the container that holds our own energy and dispels the energy of others. It creates the boundary between our body and the world, and reminds us where we stop and the world begins.
